European Youth Parliament

The 7th National Session of the European Youth Parliament took  place between 29.08.2013-01.09.2013 in Larnaca, under the theme of "Defy indifference, Shape tomorrow." Our school participated with four students, Danae Stylianou, Andreas Pandelides, Sara Charalambous and Marios Christofides, all from class B.
The students and the escorting teacher stayed in Larnaca at the Flamingo Hotel, which was the base for all participants. During this four-day period, they participated in lots of activities. It was both exciting and educational for the students and for the teachers who had special sessions. The students learned about everyday values, like trust and unity and also learned a great deal about the European Union. They had been assigned to various committees and  all the committee members had to work very hard and long hours preparing their resolutions which were presented, debated and voted for or against at the General Assembly Meeting at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) in Pyla.
All the students who participated now belong to the big family of the ‘European Youth Parliament Delegates’ and have friends and experiences to cherish a whole lifetime.

EUROPEAN YOUTH PARLIAMENT (EYP) CYPRUS

8th NATIONAL SESSION OF EYP CYPRUS

The 8th National Session of the European Youth Parliament (EYP) Cyprus was successfully held between 28 – 31, August 2014 under the theme ‘Reflecting, Rebuilding: Emerging Stronger.’ More information on the event can be found directly on the website of EYP Cyprus at www.eypcyprus.com.
The 8th National Session  was hosted at the state of the art premises of UCLan Cyprus, Pyla and welcomed 180 participants from all over the island and Europe. Participants were fully integrated in the world of  EYP by taking part in all three integral elements of  an EYP session which include Teambuilding, Committee Work and the General Assembly.
The key event of the session, that of the General Assembly, offered delegates the opportunity to discuss current and crucial European affairs directly related to the session theme ‘Reflecting, Rebuilding: Emerging Stronger’. Moreover, the theme acted as an opportunity for the development of a European identity amongst the youth, which is very relevant in the context of the recent European Parliament Elections this May. The main objective of the session was to re-evaluate the mistakes made in the past in order to rejuvenate the economy and rebuild confidence in government bodies and European institutions. Guest speakers at the Opening Ceremony of the General Assembly included the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Ms Brechje Schwachofer, the Member of the European Parliament, Mr. Costas Mavrides and the Rector of UCLan Cyprus, Dr. Melinda Tan.
Additionally, ‘Discussing Europe,’ a panel discussion between three expert speakers and the session participants was held under the theme ‘Empowering the Youth: the Workforce of Tomorrow.’ The panel included Commissioner for Volunteering and NGOs, Mr. Yiannis Yiannaki, Head of HR, Assistant Director of EY Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Marcou, and the President of the Youth Board of Cyprus, Mr. Panayiotis Sentonas. The panellists engaged in an interesting dialogue with the youth.
Our school participated in this event with six students escorted by one teacher. They had an unforgettable experience of four days of team building, debating in their committees and preparing resolutions about contemporary European topics.
